This week we released the moderation capability on our Discussion module giving Community Managers/Admins the ability to moderate discussions and discussion replies that take place in your Zapnito community.

In order to moderate these discussions, you will need to belong in a user group that has the Manage Moderation ability enabled and the feature Moderation switched on. These are managed by the Zapnito team so please contact support@zapnito.com and one of us can switch those on for you. Please note that the moderation ability should only be accessed by community managers or administrators of your community.

There is a new tile below Configuration in the Settings page where the community manager or administrator can enable the moderation on both/either or discussion / discussion replies.

Once the Discussions Moderation module has been enabled, you will be able to access the Moderation Overview page in two places.

  1. Under the Settings cog, the drop down menu will display ‘Moderation’ (4th menu item listed), and
  2. In the Settings page, there is a new tile under ‘User Management’ called ‘Discussion Moderation

Clicking on either of these options will take you to the Moderation Overview page where you will be able to review all of the discussions that are awaiting moderation.

From here, you can see:

  • Content: a preview of the discussion content
  • Author: who posted the discussion
  • Created At: when the discussion was posted
  • Context: discussion or discussion reply
  • Status: Awaiting Moderation, Approved or Blocked
  • Action: clicking on these 3 dots will allow you to approve or block

You can also click through the different tabs at the top of the Moderation Overview page to see all of the discussion / discussion replies that are:

  • Awaiting Moderation
  • Approved
  • Blocked
  • There is also a search function if you are looking for a specific discussion / discussion reply

The community manager / administrator can also change a status from approved to blocked and vice versa.

Discussion Moderation Notifications

As a community manager or administrator, you will be notified via  email when a new discussion or discussion reply has been posted and is awaiting moderation. Clicking on the email notification will bring you to the ‘Moderation Overview’ page where you will be able to review the discussion / discussion reply to approve or block.

This is what the end user / member will see when their discussion / discussion reply is awaiting moderation or blocked:

Once you approve the discussion / discussion reply, this will be published and the user will be notified by email and a notification flag. If the discussion / discussion reply has been blocked the user will receive the same notifications.

We do advise that you let the user know why you have blocked their discussion / discussion reply so that they can make any necessary changes.
